Somersby cider was first bottled in Denmark during an apple harvest in the summer of 2008. It is owned and produced by the Carlsberg Group. While originally developed for the Danish market, Somersby has expanded to various other countries, including the UK where it is produced by Carlsberg in Herefordshire. The brand name is inspired by a fictional British Lord, "Lord Somersby," and has no connection to the English village of Somersby.
